Looking For A Sample Medifast Daily Schedule? Here’s An Example Of Meal Times
Sometimes people who contact me about the Medifast diet are a bit confused and concerned about how often they have to eat and how they are going to fit this into a busy schedule. After all, you’re expected to eat six times per day on this diet (five diet meals and one larger “lean and green meal.” ) Plus, you have the option of eating one additional approved medifast snack per day, which ultimately gives you seven opportunities to eat. So, how do you fit this all in and what times are best to eat your Medifast prepackaged meals, your lean and green meal, and your snack? I’ll offer some suggestions in the following article.
Fitting In All Of Your Medifast Meals: A Sample Schedule: Of course, your experience and schedule may be different than mine. But I can and will share with you a typical schedule for me to give you some idea of how your day and meals might go. I’m a relatively early riser, so my first meal of the day happens at our 7. But I’m also hurried, so I’ll typically start my day with one of the warm drinks – like the cappuccino, hot chocolate (or both mixed together) or the chai latte.
If I’m working from home, I might have one of the Medifast pancakes or the diet oatmeal. But if I’m on the run, I might eat a bar in the car. Usually this second meal happens somewhere between 9 and 10am so that by mid morning, I’ve already had two of the six meals.
My lunch is usually somewhere between 1 and 2. I will usually have my “lean and green meal” at dinner time, but if I need to take a lunch meeting, then there’s nothing wrong with having a larger lunch and eating a diet dinner. Usually though, I have Medifast chili or soup or sometimes I will have one of the eggs wrapped in a fat free, low calorie tortilla.

I generally crave something sweet in the afternoons so this is when I’ll typically have a shake or bar depending on my mood. If I happen to be at home, I might opt for pudding. If I’m in my car and have no time at all, then I’ll have one of the diet drinks like the peach iced tea. So by the early afternoon, I’ve had four of the six meals.
Now as I mentioned for dinner, I will usually opt for my Medifast lean and green meal because I like to be able to eat a larger meal that I incorporate with what I’m already making for my family. I’ve become pretty good at being able to tweak whatever they are having to make it work for me. As a result, I still feel included and they are eating a little more healthy and no one is complaining. My dinner time is usually between 6:30 and 7 just because this is what works best for my family’s schedule. But, I need to stress that your schedule can be tweaked as needed. The plan is very flexible with this. There’s really no set time requirements. I believe that whatever works best for you is your specific “best time” to eat your Medifast meals as long as you are eating regularly and are setting it up so that you don’t have time to get hungry.
I will usually have my snack pretty late and usually before bedtime. It usually consists of the chip snacks, the brownies, a shake, or pudding. Sometimes, when I tell people this, they tell me that I shouldn’t eat so close to bedtime. I’ve heard this before. But, I really do like to spread out my meals and I haven’t found this to impede my progress whatsoever. If you want to take all of your meals earlier and well before bedtime, then that’s perfectly fine. As I said, do whatever works best for you.
So what about the one allowed snack per day? Well, to be honest, I don’t always include it. When I first started the diet, I incorporated the snack more than I do today. But usually, I would eat the snack during a meal. For example, I’d include celery or a pickle with my soup or chili. I might have a Popsicle along with my afternoon snack. Or, I’d eat a jello cup for dessert at dinner time. With that said, there’s no right or wrong time to have your snack. If you get hungry in between any of your meals, take advantage of your snack, as that’s why it’s there.

The Paleo diet plan includes an incredible variety of foods. This is the ideal opportunity to be creative and use your foodie imagination. I am sure you have heard previously that your post-workout meal is actually the most important meal of your day (aside from breakfast of course).
I would have to agree with that assertion for the most part because refueling your body with the right combo of nutrients is so vastly important to repairing your muscles from the breakdown of a workout, and keeping your metabolic rate sky high.
From recent research on post-workout meals:
“A recent 12-week study says that those who failed to consume a post workout meal immediately after their workouts suffered a lower metabolism, loss of fat free mass, and had clear indications of muscle loss – while their counterparts (those who consumed a post workout recovery meal) significantly lost more fat, increased lean muscle, improved their metabolism, and increased dynamic strength.”
I have noticed that many people are confused as to what actually makes a good post-workout meal. A couple common questions I receive about post workout meals:
1. Aren’t post-workout meals only important for muscle building? Do they matter at all for fat loss goals?
2. Is it best to use one of the fancy post-workout drinks or shakes that you see in the magazines or is a whole food meal better? What’s the best combo of carbs to protein to fat in a good post workout meal?
3. How soon after a workout is best to have my post workout meal?
Answers:
1. Post-workout meals are actually important for BOTH muscle building and losing body fat!
Always remember that one of the most important considerations of long term body fat loss and maintaining a lean body for life is raising your overall metabolic rate by building and maintaining adequate lean muscle mass throughout your entire body.

By consuming a good post workout meal after every workout, you assist your body in repairing and building lean muscle throughout your whole body. The more lean muscle you have, the higher your metabolic rate (even when resting)… hence, you lose fat easier and faster, and it is MUCH easier to stay lean in the long term.
2. Are whole foods or supplement shakes best? This can actually be done either way, but I am going to show you some guidelines why some post-workout shakes are better than others and some whole foods are better than others. Either way, it can work.
First, keep in mind that your goal throughout the majority of each day is eating small whole food meals frequently that digest slowly with high fiber and a controlled glycemic response (blood sugar). These normal daily meals should also contain healthy fats and slowly digested proteins to maintain a steady supply of amino acids.
When it comes to post-workout meals, you can just about use the exact opposite strategy of your normal meals. With post-workout meals, you actually want a faster digesting carb source to stimulate an insulin response. This helps to push nutrients and glycogen back into your muscle cells for repair. Remember, this is not just important for building muscle, but also for losing fat.
So while I always preach high fiber for most of your meals, with post-workout meals, you actually want lower fiber, higher GI carbohydrates, and quickly digesting protein as well to kick start muscle repair.
Another consideration to keep in mind… while I always preach healthy fats at most of your meals… with the post workout meal, you actually want almost all carbohydrates and protein, and very little fat. Fat in the post workout meal just slows the absorption and glycemic response which is not what you want at this key time.
What about the best ratios of carbohydrates and protein?
I have reviewed dozens of studies on this subject and most seem to agree that a ratio of approx 2 to 1 carbs to protein is optimal. This seems to be the best combo to maximize muscle repair to boost that metabolic rate for long term body fat loss.
I usually make my post-workout shakes using a frozen banana, whey protein, water, and some real maple syrup (not the cheap high fructose corn syrup based maple syrups at most stores) and aim for about a 2:1 ratio of carbohydrates to protein in the shake.
If you want to make things a little simpler, one of the best post-workout shakes that I’ve found that is already mixed in a 2:1 carb:protein ratio is Prograde’s Varsity Post-Workout mix. You can find it at the bottom of this page.
3. How soon should you eat (or drink) your post-workout meal once your done working out?
As soon as you can after your workout (the sooner the better)!
Studies have shown that the sooner you consume your post workout meal following your intense workout, the better your muscle recovery will be, and a higher quantity of the carbohydrates ingested will be used for muscle glycogen replenishment instead of other uses.
The first thing I do when I get back from the gym is make my post workout shake, and this is about 10 min after finishing my workout.

I asked my CPA why are there two separate deductions for meals. – 50% Deductible or 100% Deductible.
I thought all business meals were deductible!
He explained to me that there are several specific rules to determine if a meal is a legitimate business expense or not. These rules are set to meet the business purpose requirement and the ordinary and necessary requirement of the business. Ordinary and necessary are some KEY words you will see we use in many of our articles and educational tools.
The General Rule is:
Meals are generally 50% deductible. This means when a business pays for a meal, only 50% of that amount is deducted on the tax return. It’s extremely important to know the exceptions to this rule because some meals are
100% deductible!
Meals that are 50% deductible include:
– Meals with customers, prospects, clients and vendors.
– Meals with employees, partners or directors
– Meals during business travel
– Meals while attending a class, convention, seminar, certification course or away from home over 50 miles

What are the exceptions to the rules that make the meal 100% deductible according to my CPA?
– Meals for the business party or other social event ((group meeting, holiday party, company picnic)
– Meals provided on the employer’s premises to more than half of the employees for the convenience of the employer. An
example of this is when a business provides meals to employees in order to keep them working over time to keep the employees at the office.
– Snacks provided to employees within the office. This includes coffee, water, soda, donuts, etc..snacks.
– Meals where the business is reimbursed for the expense. An example, if a business takes a client to lunch and in turn
bills the client for that lunch in a separate line item on the invoice, then the business can fully deduct that meal.
Some professionals (accountants,CPA’s and attorney’s) invoice their customers for the meals as a separate line item. This makes the meal expense fully deductible to them and makes it 50% deductible to the client. If the meal expense is not specifically itemized on the invoice (include in their hourly or service fee), then the
meal is only 50% deductible to the business and 100% deductible to the client.
It’s best to capture this information on the back of the receipt when you are at the restaurant making it easier to record when you get back to the office.
Be sure you have set up two separate “buckets” or accounts to make the end of year reporting easier. You can do this by setting up two meal expense
accounts in your accounting software or books -
Meals – 50% deductible
Meals – 100% deductible

If not, you can easily set them up in many accounting tools and then code the expense to the proper account when you enter it in your accounting program (We suggest Quicken). I’m often asked about how the medifast diet plan works. However, probably the most frequently asked question I get from people is “what is a medifast meal” and how in the world can or do I eat six of them per day. People can’t seem to believe that I eat six meals per day and still lose weight.
I guess people picture regular meals and assume it is cumbersome, hard, or fattening to eat that much. Understand though that a Medifast meal is probably not what you would think of as a typical meat with sides meal.
As far as what a meal consists of, they are small – portioned, low calorie, low fat snack type foods. As an example, my favorites are the protein shakes (in pretty decent flavors like dutch chocolate and banana crème), protein bars like oatmeal raisin, oatmeals, puddings, soups, stews, cocoas, scrambled eggs, and cappuccinos.
Now that you see what the meals are, is it easier to see how I eat six per day? Basically, I am eating small snacks regularly with one pretty substantial meat and veggie dinner. Of course, this has taken some getting used to. But, the fact that the offerings are decent and work in easily with my typical day makes it easier.

The plan that I am on has me eating five of the smaller Medifast meals and the “lean and green meal” main, larger meal (which IS the meat with sides meal you are probably picturing). I chose to eat the lean and green meal at dinner. How I am able to eat six times per day is that I eat my smaller “medifast meals” at: breakfast, mid morning snack (about 10:00), lunch, mid afternoon snack (about 2:30), (dinner is lean and green meal) and evening snack (about 8:00).
I think Medifast probably designed dieters to eat so much is so we won’t feel hungry since we are eating so often and by eating more, we keep our metabolisms working. I hope that helped clarify what a medifast meal is and how we’re able to eat so many!

And we want it right after our workouts with protein shake to transport the protein to your muscles and repair and build new ones. Some people misuse carbohydrates in their bodybuilding diet meal plan, but it is simple.
Now that you have an idea of how the different nutrition works in a bodybuilding diet meal plan, I will give you an example of how a meal plan can look like, with the focus on building muscles.
Bodybuilding Diet Meal Plan – Example
-Meal 1: 100 grams of oatmeal and 2 scoops of protein shake. You can either choose oatmeal, muesli or something of similar value, but oatmeal is preferred.
-Meal 2: 100 grams of rice with 200 grams of chicken breast. If you want, you can include some ketchup. This can be your meal before your workout in your bodybuilding diet meal plan.
-Meal 3: Post workout shake with 100 grams of carbohydrate and 2 scoops of protein powder. A good protein combination in your bodybuilding diet meal plan is 2 bananas, coconut water and 2 scoops of chocolate protein powder. Yummy.
-Meal 4: 400 grams of potatoes and 150 grams of salmon or some other fish. However, salmon is preferred as it has a lot of nutritional benefits and should be in every muscle building diet meal plan.
-Meal 5: 200 grams of lean meat and 50 grams of almonds and vegetables.
-Meal 6: 6 Eggs. This meal in your bodybuilding diet meal plan does wonder when you sleep.
